The Underground is staffed by NPCs who react when players enter a room.
Hospitality and kitchen
The bartender greets visitors at the bar (with a cooldown so he does
not spam). The bar waiter rushes to prepare tables and takes orders
without a menu — they somehow know your usual. The chef holds court
in the kitchen over a line cook, sous-chef, and prep cook who keep the
pass moving. The cellar waiter works below stairs — too busy with casks
and traps to chat. The gardener heads the conservatory with a horticulturist,
groundskeeper, and garden hand working the beds and wildlife.
Library
The librarian enforces quiet. Library clerks reshelve books and quietly
recover what the cat knocks down.
Science and engineering
The chief biologist greets visitors to the biology lab; habitat and
systems technicians mill at the monitors. Main engineering has a chief
engineer plus technicians at pipes and diagnostic boards.
The Cat's Cradle
The cat sitter is the sole staff there — food bowls, litterboxes,
furniture, fishing-pole and laser play, mouse cleanup, and a running
commentary when Freyja or Thor is home.
Facility maintenance
*The Custodian* works out of the office east of Main Engineering and
walks inspection rounds through the complex. He greets visitors, compares
notes with staff, and is shamelessly soft for the cats. Map marker: [U].
Cats
Freyja and Thor are special cases — wandering cats, not staff. Seehelp freyja, help thor, help mouse, and help treats.
Ambient life
Scripts add background sound and activity: clinking glasses, kitchen
clatter, garden weather, library hush, engineering hum, den soft sounds,
and similar room flavour. The place should feel occupied even when you
are alone.
